Great speakers, so-so turnout: Event in Review

So, I just came back from the Diversity Workshop that we've worked on for the longest time; ain't it funny how after you slave over something for the longest time, it only takes a millisecond to finish that event? For me, the longest minutes were the ones before the event started, and there were very few people in attendance. I was freaking out because I thought the event was going to be a major fail, but we decided to just go in to Andersen Auditorium (a 400-seat auditorium with only 20 people, imagine that) with our heads held high and our dignity intact (not completely shredded) and proceeded with the event. Basically we had people from PwC, Deloitte, Target, and Enterprise come in and talk about the importance of diversity in the workplace. We got such good responses from our panelists, and they were so gracious in participating in the event. After we asked them questions for about an hour and a half, we proceeded to the reception, which was also very successful (I'm still trying to digest that Costco roll; nothing beats Costco Turkey rolls!) It's so funny how one's networking skills just suddenly gets restarted again, and it just comes naturally for me (well, for the most part). I mean, it helped that two of the people were from Enterprise, one being Christy, my recruiter. :) Anyway, after an hour of mingling, the employers headed off one by one, and me and my diversity committee closed off tonight's great event with a wink and a sigh (a deep sigh). I mean, on one hand I really was disheartened by the turnout (damn college students don't know the meaning of RSVP'ing yes), but on the other hand, I'm so glad it was done professionally, and that the employers were all here and ready to answer our questions. In terms of lessons learned, I will definitely utilize the partnerships we have with other Haas clubs, like that Asian group called Ascend. hehehe. But, really, I'm going to be proud of this event, because darn it it was good.
