Great speakers, so-so turnout: Event in Review

So, I just came back from the Diversity Workshop that we've worked on for the longest time; ain't it funny how after you slave over something for the longest time, it only takes a millisecond to finish that event? For me, the longest minutes were the ones before the event started, and there were very few people in attendance. I was freaking out because I thought the event was going to be a major fail, but we decided to just go in to Andersen Auditorium (a 400-seat auditorium with only 20 people, imagine that) with our heads held high and our dignity intact (not completely shredded) and proceeded with the event. Basically we had people from PwC, Deloitte, Target, and Enterprise come in and talk about the importance of diversity in the workplace. We got such good responses from our panelists, and they were so gracious in participating in the event. After we asked them questions for about an hour and a half, we proceeded to the reception, which was also very successful (I'm still trying to digest that Costco roll; nothing beats Costco Turkey rolls!) It's so funny how one's networking skills just suddenly gets restarted again, and it just comes naturally for me (well, for the most part). I mean, it helped that two of the people were from Enterprise, one being Christy, my recruiter. :) Anyway, after an hour of mingling, the employers headed off one by one, and me and my diversity committee closed off tonight's great event with a wink and a sigh (a deep sigh). I mean, on one hand I really was disheartened by the turnout (damn college students don't know the meaning of RSVP'ing yes), but on the other hand, I'm so glad it was done professionally, and that the employers were all here and ready to answer our questions. In terms of lessons learned, I will definitely utilize the partnerships we have with other Haas clubs, like that Asian group called Ascend. hehehe. But, really, I'm going to be proud of this event, because darn it it was good.

What do you do in Minneapolis, anyway?

So, in the next few months, I am tasked with finding an apartment that I will not get to see until I actually move there, plan how to get most of my stuff all the way there, and discover pretty much all of there. Where is "there," you query? "There" would be Minneapolis, the future site of where my life will take place for the next few years (or so?? Who knows??), where I will be working for the lovely Target Corporation, where I will spend my days stocking up on winter clothes and fruits and nuts. People always ask if I'm excited about moving, and I really can't put my finger on what I'm feeling right now. I think all I can really do right now is find out more about that city they call "Mini" and try to get acclimated to that city I will soon call home.

With that, a few facts about Minneapolis:
1) It's located here:

2) Downtown looks like this at night:

3) They have a lot of people from:

4) And therefore a lot of guys who look like this:

SCORE!!!!

5) It gets a lot like this often:
6) But they have these things that can save your life in the winter

So there you go! Just some basic info on one half of the Twin Cities. I'll go look up more info on this very nice, very gorgeous, very metropolitan area that boasts this among its many landmarks:

TO BE CONTINUED....

Intro

Hello.
It's almost 3 in the morning.
Three more weeks before I go to LA for my cousin's wedding
Six (or less) more weeks before graduation from college.
Which means it's seven more weeks before I go home to the Philippines.
Which makes for a very exciting next few months all around.
But right now, all I can think about is how enraged I am that everyone's already talking about what happened to Kutner on "House," since I haven't seen the episode yet.
Way to burst a bubble people, way to go.
